Redcliffe & Temple BID have delivered 100 reusable lunchboxes to local offices and their teams to help staff support the BID’s ‘Bring your Own Lunchbox’ campaign.

The lunchboxes will be stored in office kitchens for staff to take to the popular markets at Finzels Reach and Temple Quay throughout the week, with the BID planning more activity over the summer to highlight the waste challenge and solutions available.

Last year, a survey was conducted to find out more about people’s understanding of this issue and the data showed that whilst 44% of respondents were aware they could take their own lunchbox, only 7% of respondents were regularly taking their own container.

Speaking about the initiative, Senior Project Manager Tom Swithinbank emphasised the importance of refill and reuse.

“With the four markets dishing up an incredible 3,000 lunches to their customers each week, the inevitable waste is significant, with a very small proportion of it being recycled. We’re grateful to Bristol’s businesses for supporting this initiative and we really hope people embrace the campaign this summer and taking your own lunchbox becomes the norm in Bristol.”

“We want this to be as normal as the way you eat lunch in the office; you take the container to the market, enjoy your lunch and put the container in the dishwasher when you are finished, in the same way as you would if you were grabbing a bowl or plate for your lunch.”

Please get in touch if you want to champion this project as we’d love to celebrate the efforts being made across the city.

Over the coming months we will be exploring other opportunities to increase the impact of this campaign, working with the markets, traders and other stakeholders.

If you are interested in supporting this work or have any questions about this campaign, please get in touch with Tom for more information.

We’d like to thank the following companies for supporting the initiative:
