The next round of funding from our TAP for Bristol initiative will be equally divided between Caring in Bristol’s Z House Project and The Nelson Trust, a local charity dedicated to supporting women in crisis. This partnership marks another important step in our ongoing efforts to address homelessness in the city.

Since 2019, TAP for Bristol – a funding initiative launched in collaboration with Caring in Bristol and, latterly, with support from Redcliffe & Temple BID – has raised over £137,000 to help those who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. This has been achieved through contactless donation points, our JustGiving page and support from businesses across Bristol, who either host a donation point, or who have raised funds. The initiative has supported over 2,000 individuals and families via charity projects, focusing on either prevention or emergency support.

The Nelson Trust is an award-winning registered charity bringing long-term recovery and lasting change to lives affected by complex needs and multiple disadvantages. The Trust operates a network of women’s centres across Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Bristol and Wales, providing trauma-informed, holistic support to women and their families. Their work is crucial in helping women rebuild their lives after experiencing multiple disadvantages.

The latest round of TAP funding will support The Nelson Trust’s
Bristol Emergency Fleeing Fund, which provides vital resources to women escaping domestic abuse. The fund helps supply emergency mobile phones, transportation to critical appointments, safe accommodation and essential items like food and toiletries. Funding will allow the Trust to further combat the impact of violence to women, and to help prevent homelessness among survivors of abuse. Reserving funds for immediate transportation, accommodation, and essentials, offers women a clear pathway to safety and comfort away from violence.

A representative from The Nelson Trust shared with us just how important this support is:

"For women in abusive situations, access to safe shelter, transport and communication can be lifesaving. Thanks to TAP for Bristol, we’ll be able to continue providing the vital care that these women need to escape crisis situations."

Bristol City Centre BID is proud to support The Nelson Trust. As Vicky Lee, BID Director puts it:

"The Nelson Trust does incredible work and we’re honoured to contribute through TAP for Bristol. The resources we’re helping provide will give women in Bristol the support they need to rebuild their lives and avoid homelessness. This partnership reaffirms our commitment to tackling homelessness and supporting the most vulnerable in our community”.
